South Orange County Anxiety Counseling

Peace, Strength, and Freedom Through Anxiety Counseling

What is Anxiety

Stress and anxiety is a natural reaction to many of life’s difficulties. Any threat, whether physical, emotional, social, or other can stimulate a stress response. Stress has its benefits, especially when it helps us avoid hazards and achieve success, but high levels of sustained stress or anxiety can be harmful and disruptive.  I offer south Orange County anxiety counseling to help you reduce these symptoms.

Treating Anxiety

People who suffer from anxiety are often highly intelligent and focused, two traits that can lead to great personal success when anxiety is properly managed. I work to identify positive ways to address stress. Additionally, I help you both to identify the sources of your anxiety and to teach you strategies to reduce stress in your life.

Often, this means individuals can manage their stress and anxiety in a natural way. However, for some individuals medication can be an option. If combined with natural techniques, dosages and duration of use can generally be lower.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder

Generalized anxiety disorder shows itself in a variety of symptoms, but among the most common excessive worry, are restlessness, sleep disturbance, fatigue, irritability, and difficulty concentrating.

Panic Disorder

Panic attack symptoms include sudden racing heartbeat, chest pains, difficulty breathing, upset stomach, dizziness, tingling and numbness, perceptual distortions, a feeling of overwhelming terror, and an intense fear of dying. Due to these symptoms, people tent to withdraw from people and isolate.

Agoraphobia

Agoraphobia typically consists of anxiety about being in an area where an individual may feel trapped and unable to escape. This could be an elevator, a car, a movie theater, or even a family gathering. Often the anxiety is tied to the fear of experiencing a panic attack or certain panic attack symptoms.

Social Phobia

Social phobia consists of both emotional and physical symptoms. Emotional symptoms include fear of interacting with people (most often strangers), fear of embarrassing oneself, avoidance of eye contact, and fear of situations in which one may be judged. Physical symptoms include rapid heartbeat, sweating, blushing, upset stomach, trembling, confusion, diarrhea, and muscle tension.  More information on Social Phobia counseling.
